What To Do About Pornhub? (+TOTD)

I put my title/question into Google and here’s what comes up first"—Pornhub Block Expands to Texas: How to Watch Anyway The entire first page of Google are workarounds to this which are essentially ads for VPNs. Apparently the boomer politicians don't know what a VPN is. Maybe we should all buy stock in VPNs!

There's more but the gist of it is the way states like Texas are going about it is ineffective. They explain on the next page that an effective solution would be to verify a users' age on their device. Also, they suggest browser extensions or device filters. It is odd that the best tech country in the world (US) is unable to figure this out and design some sort of web portal or whatever to keep kids out.

Pornhub and others adult sites said that they do not oppose restricting their content from minors but that the age requirements pose a problem for adults by forcing them to give the government personal data that could be stored or tracked by the state. 

As an aside, I wrote about the potential Tik Tok ban in my last post and wondering why we can’t leave it up to the states to ban Tik Tok if that is what the states’ residents want.

It took me all of 5 minutes to find a workaround. A private online app called Tor. Not that I watch porn. I certainly have but it gets old really fast. I just bought that new book a lot of women are talking about--A Court of Thorns and Roses. I think it will be in the vein of 50 Shades of Grey or Exit to Eden. We women love that shit. We also love Dateline and true crime shows like that. Maybe we think we can learn something from it or maybe it’s that we want to delve into the psychology of it all. It’s why we want to know all about our significant others’ upbringing. Trying to understand why they are the way they are.

With regard to porn, I prefer to use my imagination than watching what often looks to be a barely 18 year old getting gang banged by a bunch of dudes. I realize there are a wide variety of categories to choose from and I must say some of them are downright disgusting in my opinion of course. And what is up with the stepmom porn? It’s apparently all the rage. I guess it’s because it’s taboo but legal and that’s the thrill. I don’t really get it but then again I don’t have to. To each is own. Here’s something. I knew a couple who got remarried and each had a child from a previous marriage. Yes—the son and daughter got married. A little weird.

Pornography has never lost money on the internet. From day 1 it was profitable. The online porn industry makes either $13B or $97B per year. There are all kinds of statistics online. Either way, that makes it bigger than all of Hollywood which is estimated at $11.1B. In other words, online porn is huge. This tells us something about human nature.

Some reasons would be when you watch it, it gives you a thrill because your heart races, your pupils dilate, and your body responds like you are having sex meaning endorphins are released.

Men are so visual which is why they seem to be the bigger consumer of porn. Well that and testosterone of course. And that's just who admits it! Then of course there is X which has lots of porn. Elon is a free speech absolutist.

Here’s something that may interest you. When a member of the household (usually the one with the dick) is in the bathroom on Sundays for long periods of time, here’s why “People like to watch porn on Sundays. Friday, not so much. And researchers suspect that it’s fathers and family-oriented folk, who are busy on Fridays.” I love that— “family-oriented folk.” No judgment. If I were to sit in judgment, I would be judging the entire male species pretty much. Also, I consider myself to be a free speech absolutist.

Someone posted “Maybe this will turn Texas blue.” I just realized the pun in that statement. Also, it won't. It's virtue signaling. It's so weird how the GOP is the party of small government except when it comes to social issues, particularly ones that involve sex. It's all coming from religion and demagoguery. 

As soon as you tell a kid they are forbidden from doing something, and/or making it more difficult to get or do something, they will figure out ways around it. Kids are smart. Kids know how to use VPNs. They also know how to type in X.com where it is ubiquitous. There are a gazillion porn sites so this just seems stupid.

So now some say kids are watching videos that look pretty similar to rape videos when before they were watching consenting adults who are getting a paycheck and filing taxes and getting health insurance. I don’t know how accurate that is but the internet says so;) I will say the passion with which people are concerned about the issue is pretty extreme. People want their porn!

I support a federal law requiring adult websites that contain sexual content to have some kind of age-verification requirements however the way to do this, imo, is by verifying it on the device itself. The larger problem is this censorship track we are on which is inevitably going to be abused in the future with regard to other things. Meaning our rights are slowly being eroded.

Yes, there is no doubt that kids should not have access to online porn. I believe it is leading to a desensitization. Here’s what I mean—“Research indicates that porn consumers can become desensitized to porn, often needing to consume more porn, more extreme forms of porn, or consume porn more often in order to get the same response they once did.” It’s like opiates. People may start with one 5mg dose of Vicodin or OxyContin and then it escalates to 20mg and then potentially to shooting up heroin. Obviously not everybody, but enough where we had an opioid crisis. Thanks Sackler family who are still able to walk around free. Look at these a-holes…

What is up with that? A fine of $6B is a drop in the bucket for these people. They need to be in prison!

The bottom line is as much as we may be concerned about our children consuming pornography, banning particular websites is like putting a band-aid on cancer. We need to find a way that actually works. People might say we are not getting to the root of the problem which is why people like porn so much. What it says about society. I don’t know but it’s not going anywhere and if anyone thinks their significant other (mostly men but some women) doesn’t ever watch it, wake up. Also it’s not a big deal as long as it’s not compulsive behavior.

So now that we understand it’s here to stay what to do about the kids. Why can’t our politicians get their heads out of their asses and actually rectify policy to make sense? They say whatever their party tells them to in order to get re-elected which they do by raising a shit ton of money. If we don’t take the money out of politics then all of this is moot. Too many lobbyists and people who are more concerned with power and getting re-elected. All of this is fodder for another post so I’ll end there.

Now it’s time for TOTD. Shop your closet! Look at the clothes that you already own and decide how to combine them in different ways so that maybe you don’t need to buy a new outfit for an upcoming event. A good way to remember to do this is to change how you hang/store your clothes. Also try to go through your clothes every so often and if you haven’t worn something in awhile, give it away to someone who will!
