Remember that song? Ok so the song was actually Dum Ditty Dum (2 Ts instead of Ds) but it works for this post. Dumb because Diddy took off on a private plane; dumb because he paid off his ex $30M; dumb for posting anything on social media after the raid; dumb because he is online saying this with an underage Justin Bieber…
And that was years ago when Bieber was 15ish. What is so weird is that he thought he could get away with it because he did for so long. Everyone just yeses him all the time. That must be why he continued to act the way he has acted for all of these years.
How do people have such hubris to believe they will never get caught and no one will tell on them? Because they live in a bubble where no one says NO. They think that they are so powerful, rich and famous that no one will turn on them and apparently often times, they don't. I am presuming something which I should not. Innocent until proven guilty. Always. So I am being speculative. But I do have good reason. Read on.
It reminds me of when famous people send dick pics (think Anthony Weiner—that name is too perfect). They believe the person is not going to expose them. (I guess that’s kind of a pun.) You have to be so full of yourself to believe that you are so amazing that no one will ever turn on you. Either that or have an extraordinary amount of hush hush money. But guess what. Some people want to be famous even more than they want your money. Also they know the money will most likely follow the fame.
I’m not just picking on Weiner—there’s Bezos, Favre, Franco—the list goes on. Apparently 1 in 4 women have received an unsolicited nude photo of a man. I am one of these women. Twice!
Back to the video. So where were Justin Bieber's parents? His father Jeremy is no prince. “According to reports in the British media, Jeremy was sent to prison at the age of 22 due to non-compliance with the probation terms imposed on him. He faced criticism again in 2014 when it was revealed he’d been partying with his then-19-year-old son hours before the pop icon was arrested for racing a Lamborghini while allegedly under the influence of drink and drugs.” Not the best role model plus his parents broke up within months of Justin’s birth. His father went on to have other children with multiple women.
Back to Dum Diddy. I understand innocent until proven guilty and I believe it no matter how damning the circumstantial evidence may be but wow, in this case there’s a lot of it. And for 20+ years! It's like Epstein.
One of Dum Diddy’s producers turned accusers Lil’ Rod—real name Rodney Jones— accuses the embattled music executive of being “involved in a shooting at a recording studio in addition to multiple sexual-assault allegations.” He compares Dum Diddy to Jeffrey Epstein and accuses him of “groping his genitals, grooming him into having sex and forcing him to procure sex workers, strippers and drugs.” Why didn’t he speak up—probably fear and the money was too good. Others just looked the other way.
Remember people, eventually you usually get caught. Usually I think and hope. It took years for Weinstein to be caught but he was eventually. Yet it’s so disturbing to me that people knew this was happening and yet continued to allow it all due to fear. Sheep. Plain and simple. People just look the other way.
Even Meryl Streep who is one of my favorite actresses of all time, even she praised Weinstein and I have a hard time believing she had no idea what was going on. She could have just thanked him but no, she praised him—
The way Hollywood just toes the line is so disturbing. There were only a handful of people who spoke out about the Covid vaccine because of fear. I personally know celebrities who told me they would not work again if they spoke up. Might be true for some but the big ones could have banded together and done something.
Someone like Oprah could have spoken up. What am I saying? Didn’t she just do what looked like an infomercial for Ozempic? Big Pharma is her big friend. She definitely needs more money! Now look at someone like Drea De Matteo who did speak out. Couldn’t get hired. Still stuck to her guns and voiced the truth. So brave and one day people will see what you did Drea! So admirable! I love that woman!
Back to Dum Diddy. The reason I am inclined to believe he is guilty of something is there is just so much. Remember the club shooting with the ubiquitous J Lo. How much publicity does one woman need or want? Probably not so much with this issue.
Anyway, yes Dum Diddy is still innocent until proven guilty but there’s this——“Natania Reuben, who was one of the three victims in the club shooting, has long insisted that Combs shot her in the face.” Wtf? This is a rabbit hole I did not want to go down. Ok I went down a little for a peek. “Natania Reuben says she is willing to have doctors remove a piece of a bullet that remains in her face to prove Sean "Diddy" Combs shot her. She also said that Dum Diddy, “openly bragged about committing the shooting and bribing witnesses and jurors to secure his acquittal.” There’s a lot to unpack here. Seems like new allegations and information comes out daily.
I remember Diddy used to have this party called the White Party in the Hamptons, Miami, Beverly Hills and some other places. I remember being invited to the one in the Hamptons because I knew someone who knew someone. When I found out that they sort of segregated people, according to how famous they were, it was so off-putting. The people who were less famous would be relegated to an outside area. Then I heard there was nowhere for them to go to the bathroom and I was so glad I didn't attend!
Although it does seem so over the top with the way the feds raided his homes, Diddy does not engender much sympathy. He comes across as a complete prick, but that said, of course, he is entitled to his day in court.
Obviously there's a lot that we don't know about regarding all that is going on, but it's obviously a pretty juicy story with legs so the media is thrilled! One big problem for him is if he does get convicted, he will be doing serious time and those who are convicted of crimes involving minors according to Google, “typically experience more risk and worse treatment than other convicts, and stand a better than average chance of being one of those who are murdered.” It's like a code of conduct in prison. Unlike someone convicted of murder, where it could have been in the heat of passion kind of thing, a pedophile does not have a valid excuse for assaulting a child sexually. (Those are some of the accusations being raised.)
I'm sure Jennifer Lopez is none too thrilled about this whole situation. She dated Dum Diddy (that’s my new name for him—I’m surprised the New York Post didn’t think of it) for two years and it's difficult to believe that she didn't know anything about any of this.
Here’s the headline from the NY Post from a couple of days ago—" “Feds set to widen Diddy sex probe over claims rapper boasted about shooting people, bribing jurors and using J.Lo as gun mule.” He apparently bragged about using Lopez to smuggle the gun into the club and she passed him the gun after he got into an altercation with someone else. It all just kind of just went away but guess what—it’s baaaaack. I’m sure people were paid off. I should say it is likely people were paid off.
She's talked about how he was the only guy that ever cheated on her and she was devastated blah blah blah. I admire J Lo's tremendous tenacity—that she has in spades. She’s been famous forever however, I have never heard a kind word about her. Never. I still don't understand why someone would want to be in the spotlight all the time like that. It must be some weird deep, psychological need for an immense amount of love. Can anyone say Histrionic Personality Disorder?
I remember when she was a fly girl on In living Color and she was not very attractive. Take a look…
Not trying to be mean but I don’t feel bad saying that because now she looks unbelievably drop dead gorgeous.
I knew the EP of the show and he told me she was bullied by the other dancers. She has also said in interviews that she was bullied when she was younger. “In several interviews J-Lo has confirmed that she was picked on and bullied during her youth, particularly when she was 18 and played a lot of sports.” They say people who are bullied can turn out to be real assholes and I think that's the case with her.
I had a friend who was an actress and instead of waiting tables she decided to drive a limousine. She was really pretty and one night Jennifer Lopez was her passenger. She said she was so nasty to her, talking down to her; telling her which way to go. She said of all the celebrities she had ever driven, J Lo was by far the nastiest and that it was even more noticeable because all of the other famous people were really nice to her.
Back to Diddy, Puff Daddy, Puffy and my new moniker Dum Diddy which I hope catches on. I think he kept changing his name to get written about in the press more often. I honestly cannot name a single song that guy sings.
In order to be famous you have to want it so badly that you can take the rejection and scrutiny that comes along with it. We all want to be loved but celebrities crave it more than most. I have the most respect for Broadway actors who get paid less and live under the radar so to speak because they love to act. Sure there are some who do it to become movie stars but there are some who are true blue.
I think soon this entire industry will change and a lot of these people will no longer be in business. AI can replicate all of them. I am not saying that’s a good thing but it just is.
Our entire way of life is going to change drastically. All of these people we have idolized and worshipped for so long will no longer hold that kind of sway. We are entering a new world. I do not profess to know exactly where it’s all going but I’ll bet those ridiculous award shows will be obsolete.
I think I’m being too harsh. There are some really nice celebrities who I know. The majority are actually pretty nice. It’s just it takes a certain kind of person to be in that industry. The industry of fame attracts let’s say a special kind of someone.
I was an actor for a minute. Then I had an actual me too moment when a producer asked me to turn around for him so he could look at my ass. Yes he actually said that! I felt like a hooker. A story.
I was the General Manager of the Laugh Factory. I worked at night and then went on auditions during the day. I went to an audition on a studio lot for a very popular sitcom at the time. I didn't think I was right for the description of the part which was the girlfriend of the lead character. The part had no dialogue but was a montage sequence featuring them on the beach, in a restaurant etc. It was really right for a model/actress.
That said, I went on the audition. When I got there, I found out from someone else who was auditioning, that the casting person was the executive producer of the show, a man who I knew because he was the manager of a well-known comic who performed at the Laugh Factory. I thought it was odd that the executive producer was seeing the first round of women for the role. Something told me something was not right and my instincts were correct.
I walked into the office and sitting behind the desk was the manager I knew from the Laugh Factory. I was wearing figure flattering pants and a top with ruffles. The very first thing he said to me was, "Why aren't you wearing a short skirt?' I replied it was not in the description of the character. Then he said, “stand up and turn around so I can see that ass." He didn't recognize me from the Laugh Factory. Once I let him know who I was, he changed his tune.
I realize this seems minor compared to other encounters people have had however it was enough to make me stop going on auditions. I was afraid this type of thing would keep happening. I couldn't stomach it and I should not have had to.
Rejection is one thing, and I probably would have quit because I’m not a masochist—either that or because I’m a wuss who just didn’t want to live life with a never-ending pit in my stomach constantly worried about how I look and seem to those who had the power to make or break me. It’s a terrible feeling and I’m so glad that now people are able to break out on their own and it’s not just up to a few select people in charge.
Julia Roberts once said something about how as an actor you are similar to a prostitute. That was way before the Weinstein scandal. I think she was promoting Pretty Woman.
Narcissism is pervasive in the industry and Dum Diddy seems to be sadly riddled with it. People use that term loosely but there are people who actually have NPD and it’s quite real. They usually end up alone. They have zero empathy and so it’s understandable and very karmic but still sad.
Also there’s the bubble. Celebrities often live in one. Now Dum Diddy’s has burst. The biggest problem he has is the lawsuit which has become public about his ex-girlfriend Cassie—“For thirty-five pages, Cassie’s lawyers mapped out an alleged history of rape, violence, sex trafficking, human trafficking, sexual battery and sexual assault. The lawsuit was so damaging that it came with a trigger warning. The outline of Diddy we all thought we knew was now filled in with colors so dark that the man long accused not paying his artists settled the lawsuit out of court the very next day.”
The fact that NO ONE is coming to his defense speaks volumes. This time the silence is better than the alternative to lying. Even Weinstein had some people coming to his defense.
I think Dum Diddy is dun. It looks like his reign of terror is over. And J Lo—why don’t you stand up for all of the people including you, and tell the TRUTH? That would be something people would remember forever. Otherwise you will be a blip on the radar of a pop star who just tried so hard to remain relevant.
Now it’s time for TOTD which is the Tip of the Day. If you ever have a problem with charges on your credit card, you may have misplaced your card or it may have been stolen, so call the company and cancel it. I also recommend getting new credit cards every so often because often you have automatic monthly charges on there that you don't even realize you have. It's also a good way to make sure you're not getting scammed. That’s all for now. Much love, Sabrina
I am stealing your “Dum Diddy”...well written like usual! Thank you for the chuckles and really? Let me see that ass? What an ass 🙄
I like the style of writing in this essay. If I understand correctly, the author has a central theme that she keeps coming back to after a seemingly relaxed stroll with secondary characters and tidbits. But it is cohesive and the stroll serves to bolster her arguments in an indirect manner. Until by the end, I too was wondering what I think was a major point; why do so many seemingly good and powerful people not speak out or question obviously hurtful behavior of their peers? Well done, Ms LaBow.
